Prescription Ordering Direct-POD
This is a one-year pilot and will be evaluated throughout and if successful extended to further practices in Devon.
Our computerised prescription system allows you to have prescriptions for regular medication without seeing your Doctor, but only up to the limit the Doctor has authorised. To obtain a prescription please leave or send your prescription slip clearly marked with the medication you actually require to Reception.
You will now be able to order your prescriptions online, as long as you have the correct information to hand and can identify yourself. This process has been encrypted for safety and security purposes. The website is looked at several times during the day.
Your prescription will be available for collection after 72 hours during working days. This does not include the time the pharmacy takes to process your prescription. It is best therefore to allow 96 hours (4 days) for collection at the pharmacy.
If you would like your prescription sent in the post, please enclose a SAE and allow time for postage. If you would like your prescription to go to one of our nearest chemists, please tell the receptionist and this will be arranged. Several local chemists collect prescriptions daily. Most also provide a delivery service. Some will charge a small fee for delivery.
In line with government recommendations, you will only receive one or two months supply of medications with each prescription, as decided by your doctor. All prescriptions will be issued generically, and not by any pharmaceutical trade name, unless there is clear clinical guidance to a particular medication.
You may also be given a longer term prescription called repeat dispensing if your GP thinks this is appropriate. You will be given a pack of prescriptions for a period of 3, 6, or 12 months, to take all of these to your pharmacy, and you then only need to go to that same pharmacy monthly to collect them, without the need to come to the surgery. Not every patient's medication is suitable for this process.
It will be necessary to see your usual doctor at agreed intervals and when the prescription authorisation is up, to review your medication. This will be decided by your Doctor and will show on the repeat prescription slip. Please make your appointment for review of your medication where possible with your usual Doctor before your next medication is due to prevent you running out. Reception staff cannot issue a presription that is no longer authorised, and a query will be passed to your GP for assessment.
To avoid errors, we ask that prescription requests are made using the repeat prescription counterfoil, clearly marked with the items you need. Prescriptions by GP's will only be signed outside of surgery times, to avoid interruptions to GP's in consutation with patients.
